Abstract Introduction: sacroiliac joint dysfunction (SIJD) often results from irregular movement patterns and joint misalignment. This study will provide recent evidence based on higher-quality studies to the previously published literature regarding SIJD. In addition, no systematic review was carried out in the current time frame on the utilization of therapeutic exercises among patients with SIJD. Objective: the aim of the study is to determine the effectiveness of therapeutic exercises in relation to other physical therapy interventions on pain and disability in patients with SIJD. Methods: Databases included Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and Cochrane were searched from January 2017 till December 2024 for only randomized control trials (RCTs) written only in English. The Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool was used for quality assessment. Pain was assessed as the primary outcome and disability as the secondary outcome. Methodological quality was ensured by adhering to the PRISMA recommendations. Results: Eight RCTs met inclusion criteria encompassing 496 patients. Abdominal draw-in maneuver and bridging exercises were the most common treatment methods used. Other types of exercise therapy were included: stretching and strengthening of the muscles of the hip. Also, flexion bias exercises and balance exercises. All types of exercises enhancing the ability of core muscles to restore normal alignment of the joint. thus, improving pain and disability in patients with SIJD. Compared with exercises, manual therapy was found to be more effective concerning pain and disability in the short term. On the other hand, combining exercises with muscle energy technique showed better improvements than each method alone. Conclusion: Therapeutic exercises are effective in the treatment of SIJD in terms of pain and disability. while combining exercises with manual therapy may better improvements than exercises alone. Further studies are needed to confirm these results |
