Abstract |
Fibromyalgia syndrome(FMS) is a neuromuscular condition where the patients suffer from pain widespread in more than three areas, anxiety, depression and quality of life Purpose: the purpose of the study is to determine the effect of suboccipital release on neck pain and quality of life in female patients with fibromyalgia Study design: pilot study Methodology: Ten patients were assigned to the study, all of them are females (N=10), there were equally divided into two groups : the control group(n=5) which received the following protocol: TENS, Hot packs, manual release to the trigger points and chin in exercises. And the treatment group (n=5) which received the selected physical therapy program in addition to sub occipital release. All The patients were assessed before and after the intervention using visual analogue scale (VAS) for neck pain and serum cortisol level. neck disability index (NDI) for the quality of life, fibromyalgia impact questionnaire ( FIQ). Both groups received three sessions per week for successive six weeks. Results: Paired t-tests for within-group comparisons (before vs. after for each group) and Independent t-tests to compare the Control and TTT groups at each time point (before and after) p value =0.005. All groups showed a statistical improvement in pain , cortisol level and quality of life. However, the TTT group demonstrated a greater reduction in VAS, NDI, FIQ scores, and cortisol levels compared to the Control group, indicating that the intervention had a more profound effect in this group. Conclusion: suboccipital release can improve neck pain and quality of life in female patients with fibromyalgia |
